Elsie M. Matz, 88, of Landis Homes, formerly of Leola, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 1, 2016 while surrounded by family. Born in E. Cocalico Twp., she was the daughter of the late Ivan S. and Susie Wenger Horst. She was the wife of the late Titus W. High who died in 1978 and the late Allen H. Matz who died in 1999.
Elsie worked as a machine operator and supervisor at Singing Needles, Leola for 25 years. A member of Sunnyside Mennonite Church, Elsie volunteered at LGH Gift Shop, Landis Homes, and the Upper Leacock War Memorial Association.
She is survived by: one daughter, Judy married to David S. Smoker, North Bingham; two step-daughters, Ruth married to William Buehler, New Holland, Esther married to David Erb, Ephrata; three grandchildren, Brian (Becky), Dwight, Jennifer (Josh); two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Hunter; several step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willis married to Ethel Horst, Paul married to Joanne Horst. Also, she leaves behind her special friend, Leroy Bowman, of Brethren Village.
Preceding her in death are: brothers, Leroy, Mervin and Ivan Horst; sisters, Esther Diem, Grace Horst, Bertha High, Cora Hollinger, Elva Martin and Irene Witmer.
Funeral service: Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11 AM at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz. Interment: Groffdale (Brick) Mennonite Cemetery, Leola. Viewings: Friday, May 6, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main Street, Leola and Saturday from 10-11 AM at the West Bethany Chapel. Kindly omit flowers.
