     Marvin Shearer McGallicher, 78, died Monday November 25, 2019, at his home in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania.  In hospice care for the last seven weeks of life, he passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family.

     Marvin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Edna McGallicher; sister Ethel Gochnauer; brother Dale McGallicher; daughter Sherri Mertz and husband Jim of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; son Jeff McGallicher and wife Theresa of Houston, Texas; son Tony McGallicher and wife Diedre of Manassas, Virginia; son Marlin McGallicher and wife Wendy of Leola, Pennsylvania. Eight grandchildren; James Mertz Jr, Jesse Mertz, Jake McGallicher, Charlotte McGallicher, Bridgette McGallicher, Scot McGallicher, Darren McGallicher, Kyle McGallicher. Two great-grandchildren; Zephen Mertz, Draven Taylor. 

     Marvin is preceded in death by wife Helen McGallicher; son Marvin Jr; parents Raymond and Amelia McGallicher, and brother Merle McGallicher.

     Born in Manheim, PA, he was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan, passionate outdoorsman, and avid hunter.  He held various leadership positions in his church serving as head usher, deacon, and board member.  He served as a Group Commander for the Assemblies of God Royal Ranger program.  He loved to sing and was a member of a gospel quartet that travelled locally providing ministry to various church participants.  He had a giving spirit which was demonstrated via his various gifts of money and time to missions, and numerous church groups.  Marvin loved spending time listening to deer stories and passing on his knowledge of wildlife pursuits to his children and those willing to listen. In 2003 Marvin and Edna retired to Carmichaels, Greene County in western PA and immediately became ingrained in the local community.

     Marvin loved to participate in community events, was on the Board of Directors at the Greene County Academy, posed as Santa Claus, and was a regular fan at Carmichaels Area High School where he supported various sports teams.

     Marvin was a part-time farmer, fulltime roofer/skilled tradesman, long-distance truck driver, and owner of several Auntie Anne’s Soft Pretzel franchises. When not working or hunting, he enjoyed watching old westerns, especially his favorite, The Lone Ranger.

     A public viewing will be held Tuesday December 3rd from 6-8:00 pm. On Wednesday December 4th a viewing will be held from 9-10:00 am.; followed by the funeral service. Both viewings and service will be held at Lancaster Church of the Nazarene at 2150 New Holland Pike Lancaster Pa 17601. Following the service, the interment will be held at Mastersonville Brethren in Christ Cemetery adjacent to Mount Hope Mennonite Church at 1969 Mastersonville Rd Manheim Pa 17545.

     The McGallicher family thanks the Amedisys Hospice of Greene County for their care and support.

     In lieu of flowers the family asks you spend time with family and friends. Donations can be made to your local Hospice. These were Marvin’s final wishes.
