Paul Raymond Hoover, 92, of Lancaster went home to be with the Lord on December 27, 2014. He is is now cancer free.
Born in White Horse on July 5, 1922, he was the son of the late Frank and Eva Clark Hoover. He was the husband of Janet Frymyer Hoover; they celebrated 64 years of marriage in June.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Blane Hoover, sister Ethel Hoover Smith and brother Charles Hoover. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: son Barry Hoover of Lancaster and daughters Brenda Bare married to Donald of Lancaster, Beverly Funk married to Gregory of Elm and Barbara Snavely of Lancaster. In addition, he is survived by one brother, Frank H. Hoover, Gordonville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tricia Bare Stoltzfus, Tara Bare Kenkelen, Travis Bare, Trevor Bare, Kristen Funk Melhorn, Kurtis Funk, Brianna Funk Mellon and 16 great-grandchildren.
Paul grew up on a dairy farm and graduated Salisbury High School. He served in the European Campaign of the Ninth Air Force for three years during World War II. He was a self-employed painter and paperhanger. He separated chicks for numerous hatcheries and owned and managed apartments. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a member of the West Chester Motorcycle Club. A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, he served as an usher and door greeter.
Paul loved his family and devoted his life to them. He was passionate about playing and winning pinochle and RumiKub, and competing with TV game show contestants. He read avidly and enjoyed crossword puzzles. His family depended on him to fix whatever wasn’t working
The family thanks the numerous caregivers, including Hospice and Community Care and Special Care, who provided compassionate care for him in end stages of life.
A private burial will be held at Conestoga Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster on Tuesday December 30, 2014 at 12:00 noon. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 to 12:00.
