Mary Elizabeth Boschnogel, 86, of Strasburg, died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 after a long illness. Born in East Petersburg on May 25, 1928, she was the daughter of Steffen M. and Lizzie Landis Boschnogel. Mary worked with her parents on their farm in West Lampeter Twp.
Upon retiring from farming, Mary moved to Strasburg and later to Strasburg Township where she befriended and maintained a lifelong friendship with the Ned and Kirsten Bishop and Kathryn V. Weaver families. Mary will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
Mary was an ardent collector of antiques, buying, selling, and appreciating their beauty. She loved animals, especially cats and dogs. She never lost her interest in farming, maintaining an active vegetable garden. Mary will be remembered for her walks every morning and afternoon on the country roads around her home in Edisonville. She was an avid reader and knowledgeable on a sundry of topics, with a wise grasp and understanding of life. Mary lived her life in the frugal style of the 1930s, the era she loved best of her 86 years.
During Mary's last four years of life, she was well cared for and appreciated by the staff of St. Anne's Retirement Community and Hospice and Community Care. Deeply felt thanks and appreciation are held for the care and love they gave to Mary.
