Robert P. “Bob” Ponzo, 79, of Lancaster, formerly of Newtown Square, passed away Monday, February 9, 2015. He was the husband of the late Victoria Battista Ponzo who died in 2013. Together they shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Havertown, he was the son of the late John and Angelina DeNisco Ponzo.
He served in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a rifle instructor in Parris Island, SC. A tool and die maker for many years, he enjoyed working at the American Music Theater after retiring. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in New Holland. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Second Amendment Foundation and a Life member of the NRA.
He is survived by: two daughters, Donna Ponzo of Denver, Deborah wife of David Sletvold of Downingtown; two grandchildren, Nathan and Kelli Sletvold; a brother, George husband of Dorothy Ponzo of Rising Sun, MD; a sister, Lucille wife of the late Rick Ricucci of Wilmington, DE. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 150 Water St. New Holland, on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11 AM with interment in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 10 to 11 AM at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
