Bruce A. Bomberger, 72, of Leola, devoted husband of Dawn C. Myers Bomberger and a believer in Jesus, journeyed home to his Lord and ended his 3 years 4 months courageous battle with lung cancer. He died peacefully on Sept. 1st , 2016 with his beloved wife and best friend and 1st love and joy of his life by his side, and fought the battle to the end holding on to the hope for a cure. With sadness in our hearts, we had to say goodbye to a generous, intelligent, hard working, excellent provider, husband, father and grandfather. Bruce was a man who truly did not want anything for himself. He saved to make life better for his family.
Bruce was the son of the late Isaac and Sallie Breidenstine Bomberger. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by: son, Kenneth A. Bomberger, companion of Lori Armstrong, Lititz; daughter, Gail L. wife of Brett T. Groff, Lancaster; pappy to Cody M. Carson, Tyler S. Bomberger and Tara N. Bomberger; brothers, Claude husband of Doris Bomberger, Harold husband of Shirley Bomberger, Galen husband of Mary Bomberger; sister-in-law, Millie Bomberger. A brother, Carl preceded him in death.
Bruce graduated from CV High School in 1963. He coached Little League baseball and football. He was an outstanding talented athlete excelling in all sports. In high school he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and played for the Harrisburg Capitols. He also played tight end and line backer in high school football. He earned 10 varsity letters: 4 football; 3 basketball; 3 baseball; also football captain; basketball co-captain; second team all county in his senior year. Bruce was also inducted into the CV Hall of Fame in 2007.
Bruce worked for PP&L as a lineman for 41 years retiring in 2003. He also worked at Yellow Freight and Emile Strosser while working at PP&L. Bruce was a very hard working man; his motto was “Let’s git’er done”. He was a member of the Teamsters 771 and Conestoga Sertoma Club; also a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels. After retiring, Bruce drove for the Amish, making a lot of friends and enjoying his time with them. Bruce filled the room with his quick wit and funny stories which he loved to tell for all to enjoy.
Bruce and Dawn loved to travel to places like Alaska, Hawaii, and cruises and western part of the US and on occasion with his family. His love overflowed to his family.
Bruce and Dawn would have been married for 49 years on Dec. 28, 2016. He made a difference in every life he touched while on this earth and will be missed tremendously and will always be remembered. Bruce was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren. Please omit flowers. Funeral Services: Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601. Viewings: Tuesday, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola and 10-11 a.m. at the church on Wednesday. Burial: Riverview Burial Park.
