Elsie S. Harnish, 92, of Leola, PA peacefully went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 20, 2016.
Born September 8, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late Sarah Thomas Dougherty and Asher P. Dunlap. She was married to Norman B. Harnish who preceded her in death in 1977. She resided at 244 Oregon Drive until moving to Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, PA in 2012.
Mrs. Harnish is survived by a son, David, and his wife, Shirley of Mapleton Depot, PA. She has one granddaughter, Wendy, wife of David Leisey and two great-grandsons, Jeffrey and Eric all of Rothsville, PA. Also surviving are a nephew, Thomas Elliot and family and a niece, Linda, wife of Al Kovaleski of Orlando, FL and her family.
Elsie was preceded in death by her sister, Mary, wife of the late, Tom Elliot. The sisters were very close to each other and traveled together including a trip to Scotland.
After many years, Elsie retired from Sperry New Holland as an administrative secretary. She was a member and former secretary of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, PA. She was a member of the Women’s Guild of Zion and a prayer warrior for many years.
Elsie was co-founder of the Dunlap/Dunlop Family Clan Society, participating in Scottish gatherings. She is credited with designing a women’s dress tartan which is registered with Dalgliesh Mills in Scotland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Elsie may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, PA or Fairmount Homes, Ephrata, PA.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Furman Home for Funerals, Leola, PA. Pastor Newell Embley will conduct a graveside service at Trumbauer Cemetery, 18 Quarry Rd., Leola, PA at the convenience of the immediate family.
