Ernest “Ernie” J. Kuenzli, 66, of New Holland, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 20, 2019 at Penn Medicine LGH. After battling numerous chronic conditions for many years, a brief and sudden illness took him into God’s hands.
Ernie was born on in Lancaster to the late Ernest and Zelda (Sparks) Kuenzli.
He graduated from McCaskey High School in 1970. Ernie worked as a mechanic for various companies over the years including Penn Dairies, Kellogg’s, and was a truck driver hauling heavy machinery for Power Pro Equipment. He was a lifetime member of Garden Spot Fire Rescue formerly Liberty Fire Co. New Holland, PA where he served as chief engineer for many years and was instrumental in fire prevention activities and programs in the local community. He enjoyed woodworking, general repairs, and spending time with his family (most recently his grandchildren).
He is survived by his wife Anne (Hunsecker) who he shared 47 years of marriage with on his day of death May 20th; three children, Adriane wife of John Warren, Ephrata, Gretchen wife of Chase Boian, Stefan husband of Tara (Hostetter) Kuenzli, both of New Holland; six grandchildren: Alana, Jami, Trevor, Austin, Rylea and Brayden; one great-grandchild, Damian; a brother, Randy Kuenzli of Bladensburg, MD. He also leaves behind his rescue dog companion, Maggie, who never left his side.
Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Petra Church, 565 Airport Rd., New Holland. Viewing will be observed from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. followed immediately by the service. Procession will go from Petra to Salem Evangelical Reformed Church, Hellers where there will be a graveside service followed by a reception. The family is asking in lieu of flowers to please make donations to Garden Spot Fire Rescue, 339 E. Main St., New Holland, PA 17557.
