Frank Cavanaugh peacefully returned to the arms of his true love on September 5th, leaving the world a more beautiful place than when he arrived.

His happiest days were spent in his yard where he delighted in the smell of marigolds, the songs of the birds, and a few cat companions by his side. It was there he created a sanctuary, trees and flora, rock walls and flagstone paths, and following the sweet smell of his cigar, one would find him in his flower beds or fruit trees, listening to music or a ballgame, nurtured in his Eden.

His imagination was vibrant and fun, his hands tough, and his heart, genuine and compassionate.

A descendant of Irish coal miners and a railroad man for 36 years, he believed in unions, the worker, and the grit of the working class. Immersed in politics, he never gave up the paper newspaper, sometimes three a day.

He was a man strong in character and conviction, humble in nature, and charitable in action. He will be remembered for his charming good nature, teasing and wit, his kindness, inclusiveness, and boundless generosity.

Frank was loved by his neighbors, friends, animals, family, and most by his wife of 46 years, Rebecca. They are reunited. All is as before, and his heart has peace.

His family invites you to share in a celebration of Frank’s life being held October 5th, from noon to 4 pm. in Long’s Park, Lancaster, Pavilion 3.

Frank wholeheartedly believed everyone deserved a hand up, a safe place, and a full belly, be it an alley cat or person. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charity doing good work in your community. He would like that.
