George D. Eaby, 86, passed away on August 5, 2020 and is reunited with his late wife and high school sweetheart Shirley Anne (Miller) Eaby who passed away in 1997.  He was the son of late Charles and Grace (Welsh) Eaby.  Born and raised outside of New Holland, he lived in Lancaster County his entire life.

Following retirement from Burle Industries (former RCA), he enjoyed a simple life of gardening, reading, walking, spending time with his family.  Being a Penn State master gardener he spent many pleasurable hours giving garden tours in his lovely “Garden of Eden”.  Additionally, he enjoyed being a mentor in the gardens at the juvenile detention center in Lancaster.  His love of nature and the outdoors served him well during his many years as a Boy Scout leader, spending time as both a troop leader and assistant and was an adult leader on several backpacking trips to the Philmont high adventure base in New Mexico.    He was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church and involved with the Awana Club as a leader. Along with Shirley Anne, he participated in the church mission trips to Barbados.  Members of his family lived across the globe at times and he enjoyed visiting them in Germany and Cameroon, Africa. During his final years, George mounted a courageous fight against Lewy body dementia.

Cherishing his memory are his children, Judy and Jerre Hockenbrocht of Willow Street, Jessica and John Arthur of Williamsburg, VA, Dan Eaby of Lancaster, Dawn and Henry Balcom of York, and Todd and DeAnn (Foxhoven) Eaby of Mount Joy.  Grandchildren include Kelly and Alex Borten, Allison and Brent Harris, John V and Kathryn Arthur, Josh Eaby, Jordan Eaby, Jared Eaby, Henry Balcom, Charles Balcom, Grace Balcom, Bryce Eaby, Dakota Eaby and Madison Eaby and five great grandchildren.  Siblings include Gladys Gehman, Mable Musser, Fern Haley, Gordon Eaby, Harry Eaby, Paul Eaby and the late Charles Eaby.

Due to world events, a private invitation only service will be scheduled at a later time.  In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Sharing Fund at Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, PA 17522 or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
