     John Charles “Charlie” Forrey, 73, formerly of Ephrata, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in Philadelphia.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Violet (Groff) Forrey.

     Charlie grew up in the Leola area and graduated from Conestoga Valley High School in 1969, where he excelled in track and football.In his earlier years he was a concrete finisher and construction worker by trade. Later in his life he joined Akron Mennonite Church with Gloria. He was a sports fan and supported the Eagles and Phillies. He was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in his late 20’s and suffered greatly in mind and body throughout his life. In spite of his struggles, he always maintained a great love for his family and his God.

     He is survived by his son, Michael Forrey, and his daughter, Sarah Forrey, both of Ephrata, whom he had shared with Gloria, also surviving. He is also survived by 3 nephews Shane Forrey, Chad Forrey and Charlie Owen, as well as several other members of his extended family. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Emma Jean Owen and Mary Lou Forrey and a brother Robert S. Forrey.

    The Family is greatly appreciative to Akron Mennonite Church for all the support they have given over the years, and to Furman Funeral Home for helping to honor his last request. A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at the Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St. Akron, PA from 1 to 4 pm.
