Joseph W. “Joe" Greiner, 85, of Brethren Village, formerly of Forest Hill Road, Leola, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015. He was the loving husband of Mary Ann Hillegass Greiner. They were married 55 years last June. Born in Ephrata, he was the son of the late J. Warren and Mary Eitnier McQuate Greiner.
A graduate of the former Upper Leacock High School, Mr. Greiner was an insurance broker and co-owner of the George W. Bard & Son Insurance agency now part of the BCF Group, Lancaster. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 1950's.
A life member and past council member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, he also enjoyed: traveling, his John Deere and Gravely tractors, serving as a Webelos Scout Leader and on the scout committee; Volkswalks; serving in various positions in the Conference Cabinet of the regional Lutheran Synod; and serving as a local Republican committeeman. His past memberships included: President of the Lancaster Optimist Club, Chief of Leacock Fire Company, Life member of the Lancaster Co. Firemen's Association. He loved playing and spending time with his grandchildren. In spite of his physical limitations, he kept his sense of humor till the end.
He will also be missed by his sons: J. David married to Lisa Greiner, Leola, J. Andrew married to Beth Greiner, Lititz, Michael married to Danette Greiner, Leola; nine grandchildren, Jeremy, Bob, Tara, Savannah, Jennifer, Mitchell, Kyle, John, Matthew; a brother, James G. Greiner married to the late Margot Greiner of Leola.
The funeral will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015 at the Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Rd., Leola. Interment: Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery. Viewing: Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Furman Home for Funerals, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
