June Rosene Steller Cooper, 78, of Landis Homes, formerly of Leola, went home to be with her Lord after a lengthy illness. Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Frank L. and Miriam L. Kreider Steller.  A graduate of the former Upper Leacock High School and Millersville State Teachers College, June was a retired elementary school teacher for the Eastern Lancaster County School District.
As a long time member of the Neffsville Mennonite Church, she was involved in The Ambassadors Sunday School class and sang in the choir.  Music was always important to her, even humming to tunes when her speech became difficult.  She loved teaching her students and spending time with family and grandchildren.  June was an exceptional teacher.  Many of her students returned to visit and thank her years after they left her classroom. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was passionate about educating her own children when they were young and carried that passion forward to educate her grandchildren.  When she was able, she delighted in attending her children and grandchildren’s many events. She catalogued these happy times with tape recordings and thousands of photographs.  She was known for sitting in the front row and smiling broadly throughout the performances.  Throughout her adulthood, she discovered her adventurous spirit, referring to herself as “Pioneer Woman", parasailing, and traveling to Israel.  She was a lover of words and delighted in her remarkable command of language, which continued for several years into her illness.
She will be lovingly missed by her friends and relatives including her children: David married to Sheila (Ebersole), Ephrata; Jon married to Heather (Suchanec), Newark, DE; Becky married to Glenn Cook, Albany, NY; 11 beloved grandchildren; a brother, Donald married to June (Albright), Leola. A son, Stephen, and a nephew, Matthew, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Neffsville Mennonite Church,  2371 Lititz Pike, (Neffsville) Lancaster with interment following in the Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery, Leola.  Viewings: Friday, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola and 10-11 a.m. at the church on Saturday.  Memorials welcomed to Neffsville Mennonite Church or to Young Life, P.O. Box 28, Burnt Hills, NY 12027.
