Kenneth E. Shenk, 83, formerly of East Lampeter Township, passed peacefully at Landis Homes on Saturday, July 21, 2018. Born in Conestoga Township, Ken grew up on a dairy farm in Lancaster County. He was the son of the late Daniel and Esther Leaman Shenk. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ethel Mae Myers Shenk; two children, Karen Shenk, New Holland, Keith Shenk, Malvern; his two wonderful grandchildren, Samantha Shenk, Austin, TX, and Toby Shenk of Malvern.
Ken was employed as an Orthopedic Technician at University Hospitals in Cleveland, OH for alternate service in his twenties. He later became a licensed plumber under Brubaker Inc. of Lancaster, and subsequently served 34 years in Plant Engineering at Lancaster General Hospital. As someone who always enjoyed socializing and meeting others, Ken worked part-time for S. Clyde Weaver of East Petersburg at various regional farmer's markets. Ken traveled extensively with his wife, family, and friends as he enjoyed new sights as well as sharing unique experiences. He also fulfilled his interest in antiques and collectibles while maintaining an appreciation for local history and a continued curiosity towards relatives and common ancestry. Ken always enjoyed the simple pleasure of visiting with his extended family and close network of lifelong friends. As a member of Neffsville Mennonite Church for more than 50 years, he served in positions as usher and trustee.
Also surviving are: seven siblings, Betty (the late Roy) Herr, Mary (Bob) Mylin, Elsie (Clayton) Groff, Glenn (Mary) Shenk, Erma (the late Bob) Work, Janet (Paul) Groff, John Clyde (Kim) Shenk; sisters-in-law, Naomi and Joyce. He was preceded in death by siblings: Arlene Herr, Daniel Shenk, and Jay Shenk.
The Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 4th at 11:00 AM at Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA. Greeting time with the family will be 1 hour before the service. Private Interment: Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. Memorials suggested to Mennonite Central Committee US, PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500.
