Lloyd Melvin Lapp, 92, of Manheim, PA passed away into the presence of Jesus on March 21, 2025. He was the son of the late Aaron and Fannie (Lapp) Lapp and the beloved husband of Anna Mae (Huber) Lapp. Lloyd and Anna Mae married in 1955 and would have celebrated 70 years together on March 26, 2025.
Lloyd was raised in Kinzers, PA and attended the New Milltown School. He served his 1-W alternative service in the Byberry Unit at the Philadelphia State Hospital. Upon completion of the term, Lloyd and Anna Mae moved back to Lancaster where he started working at his father-in-law’s tree farm, Huber Nurseries. In 1963, Lloyd took over the company and through time developed it into a retail garden center and wholesale nursery. A Master Farmer and farm boy at heart, Lloyd took great joy in growing trees and shrubs, was a devoted steward of the land, and particular about the quality of his plants. These inherited values were passed on to his sons who now own and operate the family business. In addition to the nursery stock, in the 1960’s Lloyd grew acres of cabbage which he sold at Roots and Green Dragon market stands and to local wholesale distributers.
Lloyd loved playing Rook, Pinochle and 31 and hosted many card parties through the decades. He was a Phillies baseball and Penn State football fan. In earlier years, Lloyd went fishing, hunted, bowled, golfed, and played softball. He coached the Stumptown fast pitch softball team for over 30 years. Lloyd attended the Smoketown Do Nothing Club and was a former member of Meadia Heights Golf Club. He was known for his laughter and telling stories.
Lloyd was a member of Manor Church, Lancaster. Earlier in life, he was an active member of Stumptown Mennonite Church where he served as a trustee and on the Church Cabinet. Other boards and committees that he served on include the Willow Street and Mount Joy Vo-Tech Schools, Black Rock Retreat, and Locust Grove Mennonite School.
Lloyd and Anna Mae traveled widely. Some favorite trips included an Alaskan Cruise, a road trip along Route 66, a Mississippi Riverboat cruise, The Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, and annual winters in Sarasota, FL. They visited all 50 states.
