Marianne Kendig Lichty of Lancaster, PA died of natural causes at the age of 88 in her home, Tuesday Nov. 12, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth L. Lichty, a son, Timothy D. Lichty, two brothers, and two sisters.
Born in Ronks, PA, she was the second oldest of six children born to Earl and Mary Mancuso Kendig. She was married to Ken for 59 years, until his passing in 2015.
Marianne, Toots, Mom, Grandma, graduated from East Lampeter High School and worked a brief time at Armstrong before raising a family in Soudersburg, PA. She waitressed on weekends at what was the Willows Restaurant, now the site of the American Music Theater. She loved doing many things in her lifetime, traveled to many countries with Ken, and later spent time in Florida, calling Fort Myers Beach their six-month winter home.
She loved Square Dancing, playing pinochle, playing golf, bowling in several leagues and being the league secretary. She became involved in the Park City Christmas Gift Wrap for Charity for many years. She ran a Summer Playground Camp for Kids, baked small birthday cakes for the Greenfield Inn, and baked many wedding cakes for friends of our family. She obtained her CDL license in the late 70’s, drove a Bird-In-Hand Tour Bus and was a well-respected Lancaster County Tour Guide for 39 years, retiring at age 80.
She had many passions in life; like gardening, cooking, baking, traveling, people, and was loved by many friends and family. She had a special passion for Christmas and loved all of her grandchildren who made Christmases very special for her. She loved to laugh, was full of joy, and was the most positive person you knew. Hundreds of meals were made in her kitchens; lots of picnics; and many trips to all the farmers markets, grocery stores in Lancaster County. She lived a long, happy life, and would want us to laugh, and celebrate all the fun times we spent with her.
Marianne is survived by a brother, Ray Kendig; a son, Michael Lichty, wife Cheryl; daughter, Teresa Banks, husband Clayton; daughter-in-law, Jane Lichty; sister-in-law, Peggy Balla; grandchildren, Jason, Rick, Joe, Chrissy, Katlyn, Adam, Emily, step-granddaughter, Lori; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and their families.
A Celebration Service will be held at St John’s United Methodist Church, 3001 Lincoln Hwy E, Paradise, PA on Saturday Nov. 23, 2024. Visitation from 2-3:00 pm; Service at 3:00 pm, followed by a private family burial in the adjoining church cemetery.
