Michael Clay Troop, 70, of Lancaster went home to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2025 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster city, he was the son of the late Thomas and Miriam Troop, and Elsie Troop.
Mike was the loving husband of Karen Troop (Shellenberger) for over 45 years.
In addition to his wife, surviving are his three beloved sons, Craig (Selena Kramer), Bryan (Kylene McClarren), and Wesley; grandchildren, Logan, Aria, Henry, and Simon; and siblings, Jennifer Becker (Greg), Steven (Judy), Jeffery (Brenda), Jeanne Schall (Chuck) and Theodore.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Bellamy, sister Linda and sister-in-law Della (Theodore).
Mike was a 1972 graduate of McCaskey High School, Lancaster where he participated in the vo-tech program. He was employed by Yellow Freight for 11 years before attaining his Pennsylvania insurance license and purchasing the current Shellenberger-Troop Insurance Agency from his late father-in-law, Charles Shellenberger, in 1987. He operated this third-generation insurance agency with his wife for 38 years.
Mike was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Mountville. In his free time, he enjoyed reading his Bible and reflecting on his deep Christian faith, time with family around the dinner table, carpentry and woodworking, and coin collecting. In his younger years, he was an avid basketball and street hockey player at the local Lancaster city parks and then in adult leagues.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11am. Visitation and viewing will be from 10am to 11am. Graveside service will follow at the Mountville Cemetery.
